Contributing a workout
Version 2026-09-10.1
When a workout reaches your library — one you read in from a page of your own, or one Athylos wrote for you — you can choose to let us learn from it. This page is what that choice means. It applies only if you tick the box — nothing is kept otherwise, and your workout works exactly the same either way.
The short version
- We keep the structure of the sets — distances, reps, strokes, intervals, rest.
- We do not keep your page, your photo, or your prose.
- For a workout Athylos wrote for you, the plan also includes the coaching text that came with it — what each set is for, and how to swim it.
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers and social handles are removed before anything is stored.
- Your name is not attached unless you separately ask to be credited.
- You can export everything you have given, and delete it, at any time. Deleting means deleting.
1. What you are giving permission for
You grant Athylos a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to store, process and analyse the workout structures you contribute, and to use what is learned from them to improve how Athylos generates workouts, including for our commercial products and paid subscriptions.
2. What is stored, and what is not
We store the plan — the timeless structure of the sets, before any of your personal times are applied to it. Where the workout is one Athylos wrote for you, the plan also carries the coaching text that came with it: what each set is for, how each length should be swum, and the design notes behind it. That text was written by Athylos rather than by you. We do not store:
- the text of the page you read in, or your photograph of it;
- the compiled workout produced for you, with your own send-offs and paces;
- names, email addresses, phone numbers or social handles, which are removed from any free-text field before the contribution is saved.
3. Credit
Attribution is a separate permission. Unless you ask to be credited by name, no name is stored with your contribution and none can be displayed. Granting "learn from this" does not grant attribution, and asking to be credited without granting "learn from this" stores nothing at all.
4. What you promise us
By contributing you confirm that:
- for a workout you read in: you wrote it, or you own it or have the right to share it;
- for a workout Athylos wrote for you: what you typed to ask for it was yours to send. We do not ask you to vouch for a plan you did not write;
- it does not contain another team's confidential or unpublished material;
- it does not contain a third party's copyrighted text or images that you do not have the right to share;
- it does not use another person's name, image or likeness in a way that would need their permission.
You agree to cover us for claims arising from a breach of these promises.
5. Taking it back
You can export everything you have contributed at any time, and delete it at any time, from Settings → Your Contributions. Deleting a contribution removes it. If you delete your Athylos account, your contributions are deleted with it.
Today, deletion is complete. Your contributions are stored; they are not currently used to train any model, so there is nothing left behind when they are removed. If that ever changes — if we begin training on contributed data, where deletion could no longer be complete — we will ask you again rather than rely on this permission.
6. We will not use your name to sell Athylos
We will not use your name, image or likeness in marketing or advertising without your separate written permission. Crediting a contribution inside the product, where you have asked to be credited, is not marketing.
7. No affiliation
Athylos is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any swimmer, coach, team or program, and a contribution does not create any such relationship.
8. As is
Contributions are provided as is. We make no promise to use any particular contribution, and contributing does not entitle you to payment, credit or continued availability of any feature.
9. Changes to this page
Every contribution records the version of this page it was given under, shown at the top. If we change what these words permit, we will ask again rather than apply new terms to a choice you already made.
